When I received the X Plus, it arrived from Singapore. The box is bigger and longer, it is wrapped in a plastic mailer apologetically. Keeping the tradition of high value like the Watch 9, the exterior packaging is paper, only the internal piece is plastic to hold the watch in place. Inside the packaging, I got the watch, the charging cable and a piece of instruction in Chinese.
The Watch X Plus is classy hybrid watch, it feels heavy (82g) and thick. The stainless steel has a chrome finish, Lenovo claims it is 316L grade stainless steel, I hope it can withstand the usual wear and tear. Comparing to the Watch 9, the size of the watch face is nearly the same. The extra features like a LED heart-rate monitor and sensors makes the Watch X much thicker and heavier.
The Milanese watch strap is sexy and unique. The magnetic clasp closes and opens quite effortlessly, this design allows the freedom to adjust the strap. The magnet holds on very tightly and after a day of wearing, it doesn’t move a lot. I would complain about the strap would crumbled together when not in use. The watch face on my X Plus is dark navy blue, it doesn’t have a needle for the seconds. There is a OLED type dot matrix display that shows dynamic information from the app, the display is not very bright and I have issues reading it under direct sunlight. There is only a button on the right side to scroll through the options. It is very self explanatory.
The display shows the following: Activity, Heart Rate, Sleep, Alarm, Run, Climb, Swim, Settings. Each of the function display different information on one screen like KCal, HR, Speed etc. The display also would show notifications from the phone.
Charging is done through a magnetic charging cable included. Even it is magnetic, the plug can only be inserted in one orientation. Charging from 20% to 100% took a little more than an hour.
The Lenovo Watch app is still very basic, it shows health data and mostly people would use it to calibrate the time. I have not yet to find the function to check air pressure or temperature. If you need to track sleep and pedometer, the app provides the information much clearer than from the small screen of the watch.
Using the watch for a few days, I have not found any major issues that would stop me from using it. I primarily use it as a time-piece and the smart function to me is secondary. For 3 times to price than Watch 9, I think this watch is an upgrade as I feel the build quality is better. However, this watch is not small by any means, some might find this a little too huge. I would recommend this watch if you want a watch that looks premium but not wanting a full on smart watch.
